Description
We'll meet up at the scheduled time in front of the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte Church in Braga. Ready to discover all its secrets?
First, we'll admire the famous Stairway of the Five Senses, which stands out for its distinct zigzag form and is made up of 573 steps! There, we'll see the terra cotta sculptures depicting the Passion of Christ and the 5 fountains that represent the five senses. This baroque staircase is truly a unique work of art!
Then, we'll check out the Church of Bom Jesus, a neoclassical temple built in the 18th century with the remains of other previous basilicas. We'll then see the beautiful gardens, made up of lush vegetation, a small tranquil lake, and a peculiar artificial cave.
Afterwards, we'll stop in front of some of the most important chapels of the Via Crucis that surround the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte. Within each chapel, important historical biblical episodes are depicted, such as the death, triumph, and resurrection of Christ.
Finally, after 1.5 hours of gorgeous baroque architecture and fascinating religious history, we'll end our tour next to the famous water-counterbalanced funicular.
